Context

Freelance build for a mental health professional requiring a warm, trustworthy web presence that communicates expertise whilst remaining approachable and accessible to a diverse audience.

Overview

A professional mental health support website built to the AKARETSA brand guidelines. Features a comprehensive homepage with navigation, hero section, services grid with filtering, approach/philosophy breakdown, testimonials carousel, FAQ accordion, resource hub, booking form, and contact CTA. Designed with accessibility as a core principle — meeting WCAG 2.1 AA standards with semantic HTML5, ARIA labels, full keyboard navigation, and motion preference support.

Key Outcomes

  • Built a comprehensive, accessible homepage with 10+ modular sections following brand guidelines
  • Implemented a services grid with category filtering and a testimonials carousel
  • Created an FAQ accordion and resource hub for client education and self-help materials
  • Developed a booking form component for appointment scheduling
  • Met WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards with semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and motion preference support

Lessons Learned

  • Mental health websites require particular sensitivity in tone, colour, and imagery choices
  • Accessibility is non-negotiable for healthcare-adjacent platforms — it's not a nice-to-have
